Parking
To park in the University lot you need a parking pass. If you don't have a parking pass, park in a metered spot on Academy Street. You will need a stack of quarters as the meters are always active when the club is open; the rate is $.25 for 12 minutes and the time limit is 3 hours. You can also park in a metered spot in the U.D. Parking lot. Those are actually a better deal these days as they are 15 minutes per quarter.
Greg's suggestion to everybody is - get a free visitor's parking pass! You have to renew it every semester, but once you are used to the procedure, it is not too difficult. (If you are a U.D. student/faculty, etc., you can't get a free visitor's pass this way; you have to buy a parking sticker).
There are three ways to get a free parking pass for the U.D. lot:
- The best way: Send an Email or Fax to the parking office mentioning the Table Tennis Club along with your name, address, and a legible photo of your driver's license and registration (only one vehicle, sorry!). They will issue a visitor's pass good for one semester and this pass will be available for you to pick up at any time at the 24 hour window in the public safety building. The email address is parking@udel.edu and the fax number is 302 831 0594.
- Another good way: Go to the U.D. Public Safety building (directions below) during business hours and go to the parking office (it will be crowded if you go at the beginning of a semester!). Bring your driver's license and registration (only one vehicle, sorry!). Tell them you play at the Table Tennis Club in Pearson Hall and you would like a visitor's pass good for as long as possible. They will issue you a visitor's pass good for one semester.
- At the last minute: Go to the U.D. Public Safety building (directions below) at any time and tell them you need a permit for the lot at Pearson Hall. They will issue you a visitor's pass good for 2 weeks.
Display this pass on your dashboard when you park so that it is clearly visible from the outside. Park in regular unmarked, unreserved, un-metered spaces in the lot.
The Public Safety building is at 413 Academy Street. To get there from the club, go south (away from Main Street) on Academy Street; the Public Safety building will be on your left just before you get to Courtney Street. Turn left onto Courtney Street and park.
